Many women are incredibly caring when it comes to others—but surprisingly neglectful of their own bodies. Fatigue is blamed on stress. Changes are explained away as hormones or age. And visible warning signs are often ignored until they can no longer be ignored.
While most symptoms have harmless explanations, some visible changes can be early signs of something much more serious. Knowing what to watch for—and when to seek medical attention—can be life-changing.
Here are four visible signs of cancer that many women tend to ignore.
1. Unexplained lumps or swellings
Not every lump is cancer — but any new, hard, or growing lump deserves attention.
Often overlooked areas are:
- chest and armpits
- the neck or the area above the collarbone
- the abdomen or pelvic area
Warning signs:
- a lump that doesn’t go away after a few weeks
- hard, uneven, or painless swelling
- skin over the lump that appears wrinkled or thickened
Women often put off getting checked out because the lump doesn’t hurt — but early-stage cancer is often painless.
2. Skin changes that do not heal
Your skin can reveal more about your health than you might think.
