If your veins are clearly outlined under the skin, it may indicate that you…
More and more people are noticing that the veins in their arms become more visible – especially as they age or with a weaker physique. Sometimes this seems worrisome, but in many cases it is a completely natural phenomenon.
Let’s take a look at when clearly defined veins are normal and when they can be a signal of something more.
What does it mean when veins are seen more clearly?
Veins become more visible for several main reasons:
1️⃣ Thin skin or low percentage of subcutaneous fat
People with a lean physique or athletes often have less subcutaneous fat. This makes the veins more clearly distinguishable.
With age, the skin thins and loses elasticity, which also contributes to their more visible appearance.
2️⃣ Increased physical activity
During exercise, the veins dilate to provide better blood supply to the muscles. This leads to a temporary “protrusion” of the veins.
In people who exercise regularly, this can become a permanent feature.
