More and more people are noticing that clearly defined veins are appearing on their arms, legs, or even their chests that were not so visible before. For many people, this is a completely harmless phenomenon and is due to natural processes such as aging, hereditary predisposition, or temporary changes in the body. In other cases, however, the sudden appearance of prominent or clearly defined veins can be a signal of a health problem that should not be underestimated.
What are the causes of the sudden appearance of more visible veins?
There are a number of factors that can cause veins to become more visible through the skin:
Reducing body fat
When body fat percentage drops, especially in the extremities or torso, the layer of fat that normally covers veins thins. As a result, veins become more visible, without necessarily indicating a problem.
Physical activity and strength training
During exercise, blood flow to the muscles increases, causing the veins to temporarily dilate. With regular exercise, muscle mass increases and “pushes” the veins closer to the surface of the skin, making them more visible.
High temperatures and hot weather
In the heat, blood vessels dilate to help the body cool down. This dilation can temporarily make veins more visible, especially in the arms and legs.
Age changes
As we age, the skin loses its elasticity and becomes thinner, allowing the structures underneath, including veins, to become more visible.
Hormonal changes
