People who have recovered from the coronavirus are at risk of hair loss.

Research shows that COVID-19 can trigger the development of telogen effluvium, a condition in which hair follicles prematurely enter the resting phase, causing profuse hair loss.

A prime example is 24-year-old British woman Lydia Morley, who has had COVID-19 eight times and lost up to 80% of her scalp hair, writes GlassNews.

She is currently receiving the necessary treatment. Doctors confirm that the virus may have caused her hair loss, especially given her genetic predisposition, vitamin deficiencies, and high stress levels.

Researchers emphasize that hair loss is not necessarily or universally a complication of COVID-19; however, such cases have become more common since the beginning of the pandemic. It is usually transient, but in rare cases, an autoimmune form can develop that can lead to permanent hair loss.
