Garlic contains the natural compound allicin , which is released when the clove is crushed. Allicin has a strong antimicrobial effect, capable of destroying bacteria in the mouth, preventing the accumulation of tartar and reducing the risk of gum disease. With regular use, garlic does not just clean teeth – it can gradually whiten them naturally.
How to use garlic for oral health
1. Garlic paste
Crush a fresh clove of garlic.
Apply the paste directly to your teeth and gums.
Leave on for 1–2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.
Tip: If the taste is too strong for you, mix the garlic paste with a pinch of fine salt. The salt enhances the antibacterial effect and acts as a mild abrasive that helps mechanically remove plaque.
2. Garlic mouthwash
Pour crushed garlic with warm water and let it steep for a few minutes.
Strain the liquid.
