1. Preheat the Oven

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer for 2-3 minutes, until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to aerate the mixture.
3. Add the Dry and Liquid Ingredients:
Add the flour and baking powder in three batches, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour to ensure a smooth texture. Add the lemon zest and juice, then mix gently until the dough is smooth, but do not overwork it.
