Eggshells contain about 90% calcium carbonate, a mineral that is important for strong bones and teeth. After proper disinfection and grinding, they can be consumed in small amounts as a natural dietary supplement. To do this, the shells are boiled for about 5 minutes, dried in the sun or in an oven, and then ground into a fine powder.
