Rediscovering this accessory reminded me of a fundamental aspect: reading is a sensory experience.
The contact with the paper, its characteristic scent, the rustling of turning pages – these are all sensations that no digital book, despite its advantages, can fully reproduce.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate my e-reader. Its compact size and integrated light make it a discreet companion for nighttime reading.
But handling a physical book, appreciating its materiality, leaving spontaneous reading marks on it… that represents a profoundly authentic connection.
And when your hands are busy – one holding a hot drink, the other petting a pet or grabbing a pastry – this little digital device becomes the indispensable assistant for your reading comfort.
How could we have overlooked these accessories?
The explanation may lie in our gradual shift towards digital. We thought we could do without these handcrafted objects which, nevertheless, subtly enriched our relationship with reading.
The trend is reversing today: they’re making a discreet but noticeable comeback. They can now be found on specialized platforms, available in natural wood, colored resin, and sometimes adorned with animal motifs (like the one I received). Some even feature humorous or inspirational inscriptions. There’s something for every mood.
