2. Respond with a gentle touch
The best response is to pet your cat gently and calmly. Start with gentle strokes on the back, under the chin, or behind the ears—these are their favorite spots. Avoid touching their belly unless your cat specifically allows it, as most cats are protective of this area.
When you caress her, you’re not just returning affection—you’re reinforcing trust. This small exchange means, “I accept you, too.”
3. Speak in a soft tone
Cats are sensitive to your voice. A calm, gentle tone makes them feel safe and relaxed. Try saying something soothing like, “Hi, sweetie,” or “Good kitty.”
Tone is more important than words – warmth and reassurance are what matter. When a cat hears this, it associates your presence with safety and comfort.
